At present, regulators have been widely used in all stages of crop growth, such as root promotion, seedling control, bud control and anti-losing, flowering and fruiting, and dwarfing and ripening.

This type of agent has the effect of turning decay into magic, turning strength into weakness, and turning weakness into strength. It can promote growth, delay growth, and inhibit growth. As long as it is used scientifically and reasonably, the effect of ordinary agents is even stronger than fertilizers.

Although its advantages are significant and have incomparable conditions, the types of regulators are complex, and the effects of different types of agents are different. Once used incorrectly, you have to be worried, spend time and energy to make up for the mistakes.

This requires ordinary consumers to clearly understand the properties, functions, usage methods and standards of the corresponding regulators, so as to fully tap the potential of the agents and avoid economic losses caused by incorrect use.

Next, combined with the role of regulators, share three products with a wide range of applications, high popularity, and relatively economical and affordable, which can escort high and stable yields and high quality.

a. Chlormequat

Chlormequat is a typical crop growth retardant that inhibits vegetative growth and promotes reproductive growth, that is, it can inhibit the elongation of cells in the plant, but it does not inhibit cell division.

Simply put, using this type of agent will slow down the growth rate of stems and leaves, while the development of organs such as roots, flowers, and fruits can grow normally, making the crops short, strong and thick, and enhancing their ability to resist lodging in windy and rainy days.

At the same time, the agent deepens the thickness and color of the leaves, enhances the photosynthetic capacity and photosynthetic efficiency, improves the conversion and utilization efficiency of nutrients after entering the plant body, and improves the flowering and fruiting rate, and improves the quality of the fruit.

When using chlormequat, it is important to note that the agent should be used with caution. When spraying chlormequat, you must grasp the premise and keep in mind that the purpose of the drug is to avoid excessive growth and prevent the lodging of stems. This determines that the agent is only suitable for crops with good water and fertilizer conditions and vigorous growth, and is not suitable for crops with poor soil conditions and weak and diseased crops.

Spray the agent in appropriate amounts. When using chlormequat on a large scale in the field, do not increase the dosage and concentration of the agent at will, especially for sensitive crops such as cotton, otherwise it will cause waste and cause pesticide damage.

If the dosage of chlormequat exceeds the standard, gibberellin can be sprayed to weaken its inhibition on crop growth, because gibberellin and chlormequat can have an antagonistic reaction, which can promote the elongation of proximal meristem cells and offset the negative effects of excessive use of chlormequat.

b. Brassinolide

Brassinolide is widely recognized as the world’s sixth largest plant growth regulator and has been maturely applied to the growth of crops such as vegetables and grains.

This type of agent can promote cell elongation and division, promote photosynthesis, promote the absorption of nutrients by the root system, and improve stress resistance, ensure plant growth and development, and deal with diseases, insects and weeds.

During the spraying process, please note: it cannot be mixed with alkaline substances. Brassinolide is acidic. When mixed with alkaline fertilizers and pesticides, such as wood ash, calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer, etc., an acid-base neutralization reaction will occur, the nutrients will volatilize, and the efficacy will be reduced.

Do not use it on hot days. Brassinolide is not suitable for spraying on extremely high temperature days, which is not conducive to the absorption of nutrients in the medicine. It will also cause the water in the liquid to evaporate due to high temperature, and the concentration of the liquid will increase sharply. If the concentration is too high, it will be harmful.

Do not use it when the growth is too strong. Brassinolide promotes crop cell division and improves growth. It cannot be used when the growth is already very strong, otherwise the problem of crop leggy growth will be aggravated and the ability to resist lodging will be weakened.

It should be noted that although this regulator can promote growth, after use, it is still necessary to comprehensively consider the growth of crops and strengthen field water and fertilizer management to achieve the effect of increasing production and improving quality.

c. Ethephon

Ethephon, an organic phosphorus growth promoter, can maintain stable properties and not release ethylene at room temperature and with a pH lower than 3. It is very active and can release ethylene when the pH is higher than 4, and the release rate is faster at higher temperatures.

When crops are sprayed with ethephon, the liquid enters the plant through the leaves, plant epidermis and fruit and is transported to various parts. Since the pH value of plant cells is high, ethephon can release ethylene when it comes into contact with the cell fluid.

The released ethylene can have physiological effects on plant tissues and organs, such as inhibiting apical dominance, increasing effective tillering, promoting stamen development, and accelerating the ripening of fruits.

When using ethephon, attention should be paid to the following: mixing with alkaline pesticides is prohibited. Ethephon cannot be mixed with alkaline substances, and the solution cannot be diluted with alkaline water, otherwise a reaction will occur and ethylene will be released. The diluted solution should be used immediately after preparation. If it is left for too long, the efficacy will weaken.

Pay attention to the weather and temperature. When using ethephon, choose a clear and windless day, at least 12-24 hours after the application, there should be no rain, otherwise the liquid medicine will be washed and diluted, and it cannot be completely absorbed by the crops, and the medicine needs to be supplemented.

The best use temperature is about 20℃. If the temperature is too low, the decomposition and absorption of the medicine will be slow, and the effect of use will be reduced. If the temperature is too high, the water in the liquid medicine will evaporate and the concentration of the medicine will increase.

Finally, it should be known that ethephon is highly corrosive. Metal containers cannot be used during storage and use, otherwise hydrogen will be released and the container will be corroded.

Overall, according to the growth of crops, the purpose should be clear, and the regulator should be correctly selected and used. Growth promotion and growth control must be distinguished. If the medicine is used incorrectly, it should be promptly remedied to avoid the expansion of harm.

During the use process, the use specifications of the medicine should be strictly followed. The expiration date, dosage, and method of use should be known, otherwise adverse consequences may occur.
