Naphthaleneacetic acid (sodium), a plant growth regulator of the auxin type, not only has the basic function of auxin, but also can significantly promote the formation of adventitious roots and roots of plants. In agricultural applications, it is often used to stimulate seed rooting, accelerate rooting of cuttings, and promote the growth of fibrous roots of Solanaceae crops. In addition, naphthaleneacetic acid can effectively promote the rapid expansion of fruits and tubers, so it is often used as a growth regulator on vegetables and fruit trees to improve yield and quality. At the same time, it can also increase the flowering and fruiting rate, reduce the phenomenon of flower and fruit drop, and has the function of preventing fruit drop. More importantly, naphthaleneacetic acid can not only promote the health of plants and lush branches and leaves, but also significantly improve the resistance of crops to drought, cold, floods, diseases, salinity and various adversities.

A. Accelerate the formation of adventitious roots and roots

(1) Grapes. Before cutting, dip the branches in a solution with a concentration of 100-200 mg/L. This can stimulate the branches to take root quickly and promote the healthy development of the plants.

(2) Tree transplanting. Using the same concentration of liquid medicine to dip the roots before transplanting can effectively promote the rooting of trees, thereby increasing the survival rate of transplanting. For tree species such as tea, mulberry, oak, and metasequoia, soaking the base of the cuttings with 10-15 mg/L liquid medicine for 24 hours can also stimulate rooting.

B. Promote the rapid expansion of fruits and tubers

(1) Sweet potato. Bundle the potato vines together and soak the base of the cuttings with 10-20 mg/L liquid medicine to a depth of 1 inch. After soaking for 6 hours, transplant the seedlings; or soak the seedlings with 80-100 mg/L liquid medicine to a depth of 1 inch and keep it for 3 seconds, and then transplant immediately. These methods can improve the survival rate and promote the expansion of tubers, thereby increasing yield.

(2) Radish and cabbage. Soak the seeds in 15-30 mg/L liquid medicine for 12 hours, remove them, rinse them with clean water 1-2 times, and then dry them before sowing. This treatment can stimulate fruit enlargement and increase yield.

C. Improve fruit setting rate, preserve flowers and fruits, and prevent fruit drop

(1) Citrus. Spray the fruit stem with 40-60 mg/L of solution 15 days before harvest. This can prevent fruit drop before harvest and increase yield.

(2) Apple, pear, and red date. During the young fruit stage and 45 days before harvest, spray the whole plant with 15-20 mg/L of solution every 15 days, and spray continuously for 2-3 times. This can promote fruit growth, prevent fruit drop before harvest, and increase yield.

(3) Watermelon. When the female flowers first open, soak or spray the flowers with 20-30 mg/L of solution. This can significantly improve the fruit setting rate.

(4) Cotton. Starting from the peak flowering period of the plant, spray the leaves with 1-8 mg/L of solution, spray once every 10-15 days, and spray continuously for three times. This can effectively prevent the buds from falling off.

(5) Pepper. Spray the whole plant with 20mg/L of solution during the flowering period to prevent flower drop and promote pepper formation.

D. Promote growth, strengthen plant health, increase yield and improve quality

(1) Wheat. Soak seeds in 10-20mg/L solution for 6-12 hours, remove and rinse with clean water 1-2 times, then dry before sowing. Spray the flag leaf and ear with appropriate concentration of solution before jointing and tillering to promote tillering and increase ear formation rate. Treated wheat plants have stronger salt and alkali resistance, and their yield and quality are also improved.

(2) Rice. Soak seeds in 10-20mg/L solution for 6 hours before transplanting; during the growth period, spray the flag leaf and ear with 20-30mg/L solution to promote greening of rice, make the plant stronger, and thus increase yield. In addition, using 3-10 mg/L of solution for foliar spraying during the seedling field period can help regulate the growth of rice.

(3) Corn and millet. Soak the seeds in 20-30 mg/L of solution for 12 hours, then remove and rinse with clean water, and then dry sow; during the growth period, spray the leaves with 15-20 mg/L of solution, which can stimulate growth and increase yield.

(4) Cotton. Use 1-8 mg/L concentration of solution for stem and leaf spraying, which can effectively regulate the growth of cotton.

(5) Tomato and eggplant. Before the planting and the beginning of the flowering period, spray the leaves with 5-12 mg/L solution every 10-15 days, and spray three times continuously, which can promote growth and increase yield.

(6) Cucumber. During the growth period, spray the whole plant with 5-20 mg/L solution 1-2 times, which can increase the density of female flowers and regulate the growth of cucumber.

(7) Beans. Soak the seeds in 10-20 mg/L solution for 0.5-1 hour before sowing. During the growth period, spray 2-3 times with 5-20 mg/L solution. This can promote the growth of beans and accelerate maturity, thereby increasing yield.

(8) Potatoes. Soak the root tubers in 10-20 mg/L solution for 12-24 hours. This can stimulate the growth of potatoes.

(9) Pineapple. Before flowering, spray the leaf buds and flower buds with 10 mg/L solution. When the fruit is formed, spray the young fruit with 20 mg/L solution 2-3 times. In the late vegetative growth period, inject 30 mL of 15-20 mg/L solution from the center of the plant. This can promote the growth of pineapples and increase yield.

(10) Sugarcane. During the tillering period, spray the leaves with 15-20 mg/L solution 2-3 times, which can stimulate the growth of sugarcane and increase the yield.

(11) Apple. Use 30-50 mg/L concentration of solution for foliar spraying 1-2 times, which can significantly increase the yield of apples.

(12) Lemon. Spray the lemon crown with 0.1% concentration of solution, which can accelerate the ripening of the fruit and increase the yield.

(13) Tobacco. During the growth period, spray the leaves with 10-20 mg/L solution 2-3 times, which can effectively regulate the growth of tobacco plants and improve the quality of tobacco leaves.

Notes

(1) Naphthaleneacetic acid has a low solubility in cold water. When preparing, it is recommended to dissolve it with a small amount of alcohol first, then gradually dilute it with water, or add a small amount of water to make a paste, then add an appropriate amount of water, and add sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and stir until it is completely dissolved.

(2) For early-maturing apple varieties, caution should be exercised when using flower or fruit thinning to avoid phytotoxicity. Using a concentration of 40 mg/L for autumn white pears may result in reduced yield, and too high a concentration may also cause adverse phenomena such as deformity, leaf dryness, and falling. Figs are also at risk of phytotoxicity when using concentrations above 50 mg/L. In addition, watermelons and melons are also prone to phytotoxicity when used in excess.

(3) Naphthaleneacetic acid can cause poisoning through the esophagus, potentially damaging organs such as the liver and kidneys, and there is no specific antidote. If symptoms of poisoning occur, seek medical attention immediately.
